Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine distribution was halted in the USA as a rare blood-clotting disorder emerged in six recipients. In Europe, J&J took pre-emptive action announcing that it would pause its planned vaccine rollout. Pfizer and BioNTech will raise their Covid-19 vaccine deliveries to the European Union by 25% this quarter, reaching a target for Q2 of 250 million doses.

  • April 14: 801,270 total new cases (+0.6%), vs 764,747 the previous day and 728,819 7-day average. Now confirmed 138,093,452 cases worldwide vs 132,991,716 cases last week.
  • 2,971,293 people have died (2.2% of confirmed cases) and 111,586,132 have recovered (80.8%).
  • Europe: 43,196,738 cases; 7-day avg growth of 238,863. USA: 31,421,325 cases; 7-day avg growth of 71,336.
  • Vaccines: around 840 million doses have been administered globally, of which 195 million in the USA and 102 million in the EU. 88 vaccines are in clinical evaluation and 184 vaccines are in preclinical evaluation.
